Oats, Ropes and Whiskey
This is a riverbank walk through the remarkable history of the Connswater. In ancient times this stream had a port and was the main route to Castle Reagh. In Victorian times it became a centre for some of the world’s largest factories, with history’s most famous shipyard at the mouth of the river. We walk to ‘The Hollow’ and visit the oldest surviving bridge and mill in east Belfast. Formerly heavily polluted, this river is now a haven for birdlife, and we will explore it on this lovely greenway walk.
A gentle walk on level surfaces lasting approximately 90 minutes
