Talking Blues - Ronnie Greer in conversation and in performance

A special, not-to-be-repeated, evening of talk and music featuring Ronnie Greer, one of the key figures in blues music in Belfast and across Northern Ireland.

In this unique interview/concert evening, Ronnie will enjoy a relaxed chat with fellow musician Anthony Toner, followed by a short blues jam featuring the two guitarists trading licks on some blues classics.

In conversation, Ronnie will trace the outline of his career and share some insights into the factors that helped make Belfast one of the true cradles of the blues in Europe. Along the way, he will discuss some of the world-class performers who helped to establish the blues scene in the city, and share memories of the iconic venues like The Maritime, The Pound and Sammy Houston’s that offered a platform for live performances that were to change the city’s musical landscape.

As one of the justifiable legends of the Northern Ireland music scene, Ronnie is also one of its favourite performers. His fingers have added passion and fire to some of the greatest blues bands in the country, including for a time the legendary Jim Daly Blues Band, Blues Experience and a host of others. As a sideman and frontman, Ronnie has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in the business – including the likes of Dr. John, Lowell Fulson, Phil Guy, Johnny Mars, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee and many more.

He released his first album, A Lifetime With the Blues in 2015, a recording that featured contributions from Grainne Duffy, Ken Haddock, Anthony Toner, Kyron Bourke and others - and followed it with The Jazz Project two years later – both of those albums attracted 4-Star reviews in Jazz Journal Magazine.

In October of this year, he and his band and special guests recorded a brand new live album, due for release in spring of 2020.
